Basehor Community Garden Grand Opening

Join us next Saturday, May 12 from noon to 2pm.  Meet us at the garden, located on the north east end of the Basehor City Park.  Refreshments will be served.

In the meantime, check out these pictures of the newly installed pergola.  Basehor PRIDE is very thankful to the Basehor Linwood High School students that built us such a wonderful pergola for our garden.  If you haven't seen the garden yet, you should really come check this out!

We hope to see you next Saturday at the garden opening!

Our Garden Continues to Grow

Basehor PRIDE continues to work on the Basehor Community Garden in the Basehor City Park.  Here are a few of our most recent projects:

We've added a hose and lock to the waterspout.  All garden participants now have keys to the waterspout and most have begun planting.

Not only will the Community Garden be functional, but Basehor PRIDE is also pleased to announce that it will be beautiful as well!  The High School has begun crafting a pergola to go at the garden entrance, and the dimensions have been plotted out at the garden.

If you haven't been by lately, stop by to see the progress at the park.

Yard of the Month and Other Exciting News

Basehor PRIDE is happy to announce that we have been approved for $4,800 in grant funding through Kansas Community Gardens!  Check out their website here: http://www.kansascommunitygardens.org/.  We cannot wait to put this money to good use by adding a number of improvements to our garden as we continue to build and grow.  This grant is in addition to over $1,000 we recieved from Kansas PRIDE, Inc. through their Partnters in Pride grant program.

Basehor PRIDE is also gearing up to start our Yard of the Month program back up this summer.  Starting in May, Basehor PRIDE will begin selecting 4 yards in Basehor every month to be featured in the Basehor Sentinel as the Basehor Yard of the Month.  Check out some of our previous winners.

Watch for this year's Yard of the Month picks in the Basehor Sentinel!

Basehor Community Garden - Sign Up Today!

Basehor PRIDE is excited to announce that we've officially broken ground at the Basehor Community Garden!  The garden is located on the north end of the Basehor City Park - located at 15940 Leavenworth Road.

We're starting our first year with 14 plots - and only 4 plots are still available!  We have 2 10x10' plots available and 2 10x 22' plots available.  If you're interested in getting a plot, contact Basehor PRIDE at basehorpride@gmail.com.

Check out our progress so far!

All of the plots have been tilled and marked, and mulch walkways have been placed between the plots so everyone can easily get to their plot.

As soon as garden participants have paid their plot dues ($25 for a larger plot, $15 for a smaller plot) to cover the cost of water and communal area upkeep, they can begin planting.  As you can see, some participants have already begun!

A water line has been installed, with a spout located in the middle of the garden for easy access.  Basehor PRIDE plans to purchase a nice rubber hose for participants' use.

In addition to the basic garden plots, Basehor PRIDE has multiple beautification projects planned, including benches and a wood pergola.  Concrete pads for the benches have already been poured.  They'll rest under a nice shade tree and look out onto the garden.

A special thanks goes out to everyone who is helping to make our community garden a reality, including Kansas PRIDE - Partners in PRIDE, the city of Basehor, the Basehor City Park Board, and the Basehor-Linwood High School.

Stop by and check out our progress today.  Again, plots are quickly filling up!  If you'd like to get involved this spring, contact us at basehorpride@gmail.com.
